In certain instances, a Court may adjourn the sentencing of an individual convicted of a
crime for up to one year from the date of conviction and place the offender under
interim probation supervision. This serves as a trial period to help determine if the
offender might be successful on probation. If successful during the interim period,
when the individual returns to court, they are then generally sentenced to a traditional
term of probation supervision rather than being incarcerated. If the offender is not
successful during the interim supervision period, supervision may be terminated and the
individual may be sentenced to incarceration.
